Book Description
Concrete repair continues to be a subject of major interest to engineers and technologists worldwide. The concrete repair budget for the UK alone currently runs at some UKP 220 per annum. Some estimates have indicated that, worldwide, in 2010 the expenditure for maintenance and repair work will represent about 85% of the total expenditure in the construction field. It has been forecast that, in the same year in the USA, 50 billion dollars will be spent just for the restoration of deteriorated bridges and viaducts. An understanding of the latest techniques in repair and testing and inspection is thus crucial to the international construction industry. This book, with contributions from 34 countries, brings together the best in research, practical application, strategy and theory relating to concrete repair, testing and inspection, fire damage, composites and electro-chemical repair.

Book Description
The Concrete Solutions series of International Conferences on Concrete Repair began in 2003 with a conference held in St. Malo, France in association with INSA Rennes. Subsequent conferences have seen us partnering with the University of Padua in 2009 and with TU Dresden in 2011. This conference is being held for the first time in the UK, in association with Queen’s University Belfast and brings together delegates from 36 countries to discuss the latest advances and technologies in concrete repair. Earlier conferences were dominated by electrochemical repair, but there has been an interesting shift to more unusual methods, such as bacterial repair of concrete plus an increased focus on service life design aspects and modelling, with debate and discussion on the best techniques and the validity of existing methods. Repair of heritage structures is also growing in importance and a number of the papers have focused on the importance of getting this right, so that we may preserve our rich cultural heritage of historic structures. This book is an essential reference work for those working in the concrete repair field, from Engineers to Architects and from Students to Clients.

Book Description
The challenges facing humanity in the 21st century includeclimate change, population growth, overconsumption of resources, overproduction of waste and increasing energy demands. Forconstruction practitioners, responding to these challenges meanscreating a built environment that provides accommodation andinfrastructure with better whole-life performance using lowervolumes of primary materials, less non-renewable energy, wastingless and causing fewer disturbances to the naturalenvironment. Concrete is ubiquitous in the built environment. It is therefore essential that it is used in the most sustainableway so practitioners must become aware of the range of sustainableconcrete solutions available for construction. While sustainabledevelopment has been embedded into engineering curricula, it can bedifficult for students and academics to be fully aware of theinnovations in sustainable construction that are developed by theindustry. Sustainable Concrete Solutions serves as an introductionto and an overview of the latest developments in sustainableconcrete construction. It provides useful guidance, withfurther references, to students, researchers, academics andpractitioners of all construction disciplines who are faced withthe challenge of designing, specifying and constructing withconcrete.

Book Description
With the progression of technological breakthroughs creating dependencies on telecommunications, the internet, and social networks connecting our society, CIIP (Critical Information Infrastructure Protection) has gained significant focus in order to avoid cyber attacks, cyber hazards, and a general breakdown of services. Critical Information Infrastructure Protection and Resilience in the ICT Sector brings together a variety of empirical research on the resilience in the ICT sector and critical information infrastructure protection in the context of uncertainty and lack of data about potential threats and hazards. This book presents a variety of perspectives on computer science, economy, risk analysis, and social sciences; beneficial to academia, governments, and other organisations engaged or interested in CIIP, Resilience and Emergency Preparedness in the ICT sector.

Book Description
The key principle of systems engineering is that an aircraft should be considered as a whole and not as a collection of parts. Another principle is that the requirements for the aircraft and its subsystems emanate from a logical set of organized functions and from economic or customer-oriented requirements as well as the regulatory requirements for certification. The resulting process promises to synthesize and validate the design of aircraft which are higher in quality, better meet customer requirements and are most economical to operate. This book is more of a how to and a why to rather than a what to guide. It stresses systems engineering is an integrated technical-managerial process that can be adapted without sacrificing quality in which risk handling and management is a major part. It explains that the systems view applies to both the aircraft and the entire air transport system. The book emphasizes that system engineering is not an added layer of processes on top of the existing design processes; it is the glue that holds all the other processes together. The readership includes the aircraft industry, suppliers and regulatory communities, especially technical, program and procurement managers; systems, design and specialty engineers (human factors, reliability, safety, etc.); students of aeronautical and systems engineering and technical management; and government agencies such as FAA and JAA.
